"Downed Pear"
6x8

I think I'm getting to a place where I might be feeling a little better about all of the work I have ahead of me. I put the finishing touches on this little painting yesterday. I love painting pears ... and I'm not the only one!

Plums

I'm still adding the glazes and working toward getting this completed ... I love the details! I think.

"Stratford Barn"

Another possibility for the "Artist Tree" for Hope House. This was a beautiful fall day at Stratford Hall.

Paint, Paint, Paint

"Plum Crazy"
4x4

Here's a first attempt for the "Artist-Tree" for Hope House. The tree will be in the Museum in November, decorated with the works of over 30 artists. When I showed it to my husband he said, "Oh my gosh, it looks like a photograph. Are those plums?" Hmmmm

Back to Blogging

I have definitely dropped the blog ball since I first set this site up. I've been soooo busy, but  I guess that just boils down to "the dog ate it" excuse.

I was recently asked how I paint. So, I'm going to post the progression of a painting that I'm working on for the Bistro Show.

This is the first step in my process, the underpainting. I work primarily in umber and some gray thinned with OMS. I work wet over dry and fat over lean. I use Burnt Umber, Burnt Sienna and Raw Umber primarily, because those colors dry more quickly.

I continue adding thinned paint and detail to the plums. At this point, I concentrate on tonal values and contrast only.

I've started to add the color glazes. I "fatten" the paint with a linseed oil medium.
