Back to Blogging

I have definitely dropped the blog ball since I first set this site up. I've been soooo busy, but  I guess that just boils down to "the dog ate it" excuse.

I was recently asked how I paint. So, I'm going to post the progression of a painting that I'm working on for the Bistro Show.

This is the first step in my process, the underpainting. I work primarily in umber and some gray thinned with OMS. I work wet over dry and fat over lean. I use Burnt Umber, Burnt Sienna and Raw Umber primarily, because those colors dry more quickly.

I continue adding thinned paint and detail to the plums. At this point, I concentrate on tonal values and contrast only.

I've started to add the color glazes. I "fatten" the paint with a linseed oil medium.
